Five More Of My Favorite Desserts In Salt Lake City
It has been far too long since I shared some of my favorite desserts here in Salt Lake City.
But I am finally back with more recommendations and I like these treats even better than the previous ones I have mentioned!
My main hope with this blog is to inspire my readers to try new things on a regular basis. Alongside that is a goal to support local businesses.
I encourage you to do so as you seek a variety foods and desserts to enrich your day to day life.
And so without further ado, I give you five more of my favorite desserts in the Salt Lake area!
BLACKSMITH ICE CREAM
1295 Miller Ave #5, Millcreek, UT 84106
Fun fact: I used to work with the founder and owner of Blacksmith Ice Cream at a summer job before he started making freshly churned frozen treats.
He talked about how great rolled ice cream is since it's freshly made right in front of you. He was excited about the whole process and the idea of making his own recipes with fresh ingredients.
Now, a few years later that's exactly what he's doing. And it's so cool to try these flavors and see the delcious, small batch ice cream being made on a frozen anvil.
They have two locations with the original on Main Street, Bountiful and another in Millcreek. We like to eat Blacksmith ice cream as we stroll Main Street during the Bountiful Chalk Art Festival in June.
Blacksmith is constantly creating new flavors like Sticky Mango Rice with actual rice in the ice cream (don't knock 'til you try it), Brazilian Limeade, and Strawberry Basil.
I love the Fresh Raspberry ice cream. It reminds me of summer barbecues with family in my childhood.
They have multiple vegan options that taste great too like their Blueberry Lemon.
You can choose two flavors in your cup, but they won't mix vegan and dairy flavors because they are allergy conscious.
They have so many more fantastic flavors like Honeybud which is honey & lavendar.
And the Campfire S'mores ice cream is another favorite. It's not just chocolate, marshmallow, and Graham cracker. They actually toast the marshmallows to give the ice cream a tiny bit of smoky flavor.
I could go on and on! Blacksmith not only has incredible flavors, you can taste the quality ingredients in each bite.

DONUTS AT CHUBBY BAKER
317 E 900 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111
I didn't think I was a donut girl. I mean, I've never disliked them. It's just that I don't recall ever being thrilled at the sight of donuts.
And then I tried Blackbird Doughnuts in Boston. They were so good, we went back for more two days later.
Ever since then, I have been on the hunt for the best donuts in Salt Lake City, or at least in the valley.
It's true, Banbury Cross and Darla's Donuts have great quality. And it's fun to get fresh made donuts at Duck Donuts any time of day.
But none of these donut shops quite did it for me like Blackbird Doughnuts.
Then, this spring, I found Chubby Baker at 317 E 900 S. And they have two more locations in Sandy and Orem.
You guys, these donuts are so good!
Chubby Baker is an Asian-American bakery with delightful flavors like Ube (purple yam), Passionfruit, Thai Young Coconut, and Ferrero Rocher.
One of my favorites is the Hot Guava donut. It's got a guava filling (obviously) and it's rolled in a mixture of white sugar and fine pepper flakes.
I had never had a donut with a hint of spice and it was awesome.
The ube one, though. It was hard to pace myself with that one. The filling has the consistency of mousse with a rich, happy flavor. I don't know how else to describe it, but it made me feel happy so there you go.
Chubby Baker makes more than donuts but that's their specialty.
They have several regular menu donuts with three or so monthly flavors.
And the flavors are the most unique you will find in Salt Lake Valley. In spring they have a Blueberry & Lemon Goat Cheese one. The filling was like lemon cheesecake!
They also sometimes have a Mango Stickh Rice donut or a Jasmine White Chocolate donut.
Possibly the best donut on their regular menu is the brown butter one. It just looks like your typical glazed donut with sprinkles (at their Salt Lake bakery).
I do think I would like it better without the sprinkles, though they make this donut look pretty. Their other locations don't put sprinkles on their brown butter donuts.
The brown butter glaze is perfect! It's sweet and savory and very rich. You'll definitely want a glass of milk to go with it.
PASTRIES AT EVA'S BAKERY
155 S Main St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101
The chocoate almond croissants are perfect!
We liked the vegan chocolate cookies too as they were rich and fudge like brownies.
There aren't dozens of options to choose from which I take as a good sign.
Sometimes when bakeries, and other shops, try to do a little of everything, they lose quality. But Eva's is very simple.
Along with remarkable croissants, Eva's makes kouign amann, fruit tarts, cinnamon rolls, macarons, and more.
We love getting breakfast there too!
HATCH FAMILY CHOCOLATES
376 8th Ave A, Salt Lake City, UT 84103
Unfortunately, I don't have a photo to showcase these wonderful chocolates but I highly recommend Hatch located in the Avenues of Salt Lake City.
The dark chocolate is high quality and has a nice snap to it. I will keep coming back here in lieu of settling for lower quality elsewhere.
We got: Pinoche, Raspberry Cream, Marizpan, Peanut Butter, and the Apricot (I can't remember the exact name) all covered in dark chocolate. We enjoyed them all especially the Apricot and Pinoche.
The Lemon Cream looked tempting but I imagine Key Lime Cream with dark chocolate would be even better. Maybe I'll ask if they take suggestions.
I also got myself a dark hot chocolate which is the best hot cocoa I have had other than what I make for myself at home. It's pricey but worth trying at least once. It's very rich, so you may want water to drink as well.
We plan to come back to Hatch time and again!

DOKI DOKI - JAPANESE DESSERT CAFÉ
249 E 400 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111
The pandan crêpe cake is divine!
I have had crêpe cake before but not like this. As I try to think how to describe it terms like silky, pillowy, and cloud-like come to mind.
The cream is flavorful without being too heavy or too sweet. And I just love the texture. It's reminiscent of mille-fuille if you've had that before.
Pandan is a tropical plant used mainly for flavor in Southeast Asian cultures. I had never tasted it before so naturally that's the flavor I chose. It's a little like vanilla but more earthy and nutty.
One slice of this crêpe cake will set you back $10. But it makes sense considering how long it takes to not only make these super thin pancakes, but then to layer dozens of them with pastry cream between. And it was absolutely worth the price!
We also tried a fruit sando. It was good but not a favorite of ours. The crêpe cake is where it's at!
They also have fluffy pancakes in tons of flavors, ice cream and taiyaki waffles.
I look forward to trying their raspberry pistachio crêpe cake and their ube ice cream next time I go.
Which of all these desserts do you want to try first?
